River Operating Conditions Tow Size Restrictions Tow-size restrictions are in effect on the Illinois River (north and south bound; effective June 12, 2026) and on the Upper Mississippi River (south bound only; effective June 9, 2026) from St. Louis to Columbus, KY. River Conditions: Illinois River: Mississippi River: Lock Outages: Arkansas River: -There will be multiple closures on the Arkansas River throughout 2026. Ohio River: -Emsworth Lock Closure (OH 6.2): Primary Chamber repairs and Auxiliary Chamber restrictions –Closure set for 4/27 – 9/4 -Cannelton Lock Closure (OH 720): The Aux. chamber will be closed for repairs to the emergency gate. — Closure set for 5/5 – 7/7/26 Cumberland River: -Barkley Lock will be closed to make repairs to the miter gates. Traffic may pass by taking the alt. route via KY Lock and Barkley Canal. –Closure set for 8/10 – 9/30 Tennessee River: -Kentucky Lock will be closed Monday, June 15, 2026 through Wednesday, July 1, 2026 to facilitate downstream miter gate gearbox replacement Gulf Activity: Calcasieu lock is having daytime closures Mon – Fri from 0700 -1900 until Sept. 18. The river gauge at Baton Rouge is on the rise; it is expected to crest around July 5-6, near 26 feet.
